A sofa designed by Robert Adam and made by Thomas Chippendale for Sir Lawernce Dundas for the Great Room at Arlington Street, London. Hand carved and water gilded to match the original in fine detail. The serpentine scrolled cresting bordered with foliage-wrapped reeding and centred by a pierced anthemion cresting, the arms and seat edged with husks, carved anthemia and sunflower rosettes. The deep seat-rail carved with a central shell framed by griffins and sphinxes framing the legs all upon hairy-paw feet. The original Dundas suite consisted of three sofas and four armchairs.
The serpentine shaped and padded back without scrolled arms and seat to be upholstered in the client’s own material.
